A look at the lives and loves of a group of high school students. It's the final year of high school for Brad Hamilton who decides he should break up with his longtime girlfriend to play the field. He's at a loss however when she breaks up with him first. Jeff Spicoli continues to take delight in getting under the skin of his teacher, Mr. Hand. Others are looking for love, sex and just plain having a good time which, for the most part, they all seem to find though sometimes in unexpected places /

"Mark 'Rat' Ratner" Brian Backer) works at the theater in the mall and has a crush on a girl in his biology class named "Stacy Hamilton" Jennifer Jason Leigh. Unfortunately, being shy and inexperienced, Rat turns to his best friend "Mike Damone" Robert Romanus) who generously advises him but then proceeds to have sex with Stacy- and comes to regret it immediately afterwards. Also featured is a pothead named "Jeff Spicoli" Sean Penn) who has a problem with his history teacher by the name of "Mr. Hand" Ray Walston) Or to be more accurate, perhaps it's better to say that Mr. Hand has a problem with Jeff Spicoli. In any case, this was one of better "high school comedies" produced during the 80's and typifies this particular era in film quite well. Above average.

its is somewhat dated, with the references to Pat Benetar lookalikes, but I saw the same kind of stuff at that age.
numerous memorable lines came out of the movie and a lot of genuinely funny scenes. Some of these characters could easily been inspired by people I went to school with. or should I say 'sort of' went to high school since my 9-13 years consisted of 80% boredom 10 % ho hum and 10% awesome! totally awesome. I finally got around to renting the uncut version from the video store including the famous Phoebe Cates topless 5 seconds. She sure was a hottie in 1982.
